... Within the frugivore group P. troglodytes has smaller residual values than does P. paniscus and these differences are statistically significant (p < 0.05) for all but the I2 CA cej sample. While there are statistically significant differences in residual values reported for some species of Pan and Pongo for each incisor crown sample, there is no clear-cut separation at the generic level between Pan and Pongo suggesting that despite noted differences in the mechanical properties of the foods consumed by these taxa (e.g., greater reliance on hard object frugivory in Pongo; Coiner-Collier et al., 2016) there is considerable overlap among more frugivorous hominids.
