... This dimension spans instruments belonging to different musical traditions and cultures in terms of classical, traditional and popular music styles. Here, our goal was to create the opportunity for children to explore and experiment with conventional musical instruments in unconventional ways in an approach resembling practices within the scope of experimental approaches to music (Holmes 2008;Nyman 1999) in which composers and musicians deploy unconventional playing techniques, objects or electronic and digital artefacts to alter the original sounds of the musical instruments. To implement this category, the second article author (a violinist), together with two other musiciansa pianist and a flautist -that usually approach performance in this experimental way, led three different sessions with children, providing different chances to explore the instruments and experiment with different sounds and ways of playing. ...
