... Roman et al. (1983) estimated planktonic primary production at three stations in the central bay over the course of a year in the late 1970s. Brand (1988) made productivity measurements at a much larger set of stations about a decade later but not at in situ light levels, and hence the data cannot be used for budget purposes. Seagrasses fix a lot of carbon in Biscayne Bay, perhaps more than phytoplankton do (Roman et al. 1983), but robust quantitative estimates are lacking for the bay as whole. ...
