Non-social consumption of alcohol: Its identification in the community for its prevention and treatment

Introduction: Alcohol abuse includes high social and economic costs. The prevalence of problems related with alcohol is higher in persons with a non-social consumption, which do not have a criterion to be diagnosed as an alcoholic. In the Health Primary Attention, the recognition of this people through an active investigation, allows their treatment in a medical institution. Objective: To characterize people with alcohol abuse. Material and Methods: A descriptive and transversal investigation was conducted at "Héroes del Moncada" and "Héroes de Corynthia" Policlinics in the neighborhood of Vedado. The patients' demographic and diagnostic data with alcohol abuse was collected from the family registry of Family Doctors, formal and non-formal leaders of the community were interviewed to find new cases and identify the presence of sale points and habitual meeting places. Results: Prevailed the masculine sex, workers and older than 40 with diagnostic of alcoholic dependence followed by harmful consumption and an easy access to places where alcoholic drinks are expended with a variety of prices. Conclusions: Exist an outdated registration of people with alcohol abuse existed, being able to make its update. It is identified with more facility the advanced of the illness but not the risk consumption. Social acceptance of the consumption exists. A plan for the prevention and attention of the problems was recommend.

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted to determine the patterns of alcohol consumption in women. The study group was composed of 52 patients who attended the Community Center Square Mental Health Revolution for problems related to alcohol in the period from January 2010 to December 2012. The objectives of this study were to characterize the study population according to variables sociodemographic, the presence of alcoholic relatives and identify the frequency and amount of consumption, which was designed and a survey was conducted. To characterize the patterns of alcohol consumption, the Identification Questionnaire for Disorders due to Alcohol was used. A predominance of young adult women between 25 and 44, workers with a high school level of education and unmarried was found. The predominant diagnosis was alcohol dependence followed by excessive consumption, with a daily consumption of a bottle of strong drink, and most had a history of alcoholism, especially in first-line relatives.

Introduction: Smoking is an addictive disease remains difficult for many smoking cessation. For prevention and control in Cuba multiple measures ranging from increasing the price of cigarettes to provide desestimulación treatments are taken. Objective: To characterize smokers seeking help to quit, according to sociodemographic variables, consumption characteristics, associates and people that influenced the decision to stop diseases. Methods: A descriptive investigation was conducted with 103 patients who came in 2012 to serve desensitization of smoking behavior the Community Mental Health Center Square of the Revolution in Havana. They conducted a questionnaire and informed the Fagerström test for identifying the degree of nicotine dependence prior consent. Results: The prevalence of patients older than 45 years with an average education level and higher employment relationship was found. Most smokers had family confirming the high significance of learning by imitation. Predominated smoking initiation in adolescence and sociocultural pathogenic pathway. Prevailed a degree of severe respiratory and smoking being the most reported cardiovascular disorders. Family and friends were the most influential people for leaving. The guidance by family doctors was limited. Conclusions: Seek help for smoking cessation middle-aged, dependent on nicotine, with high consumption, early initiation to smoking-related diseases psychotherapeutic strategies needed to be consistent with this characterization. It was limited in primary care, medical advice.
