Early workers (pre-1980s; see complete tabulation by Barnett et al. 1998) ascribed the origin of the moraine, based mainly on geomorphology, to inter-lobate control with implied deposition from lateral inflow and coalescing sediment influx under steady-state, ice advance/ retreat model conditions (e.g. Taylor 1913;Chapman & Putnam 1943;Gravenor 1957;Gwyn & Cowan 1978). Subsequent, near-surface sedimentological analysis of roadside, river, lake and aggregate exposures, combined with geomorphology, allowed progressively refined interpretations of the moraine features. ...
