The Critical CotW Model is a theoretically derived framework designed to guide youth sport coaches (and other youth sport leaders, e.g., physical education teachers, recreational counselors) through the facilitated experiential learning process. Originally developed by adapting the Facilitated Wave Model used for adventure therapy (Alvarez & Stauffer, 2001;Alvarez et al., 2020), the current iteration of the model illustrates the dynamic process of learning that occurs between a coach and athlete within the socially constructed learning environment of youth sport (Newman et al., 2017).
