Figure 1. Illustrated maps of study area locations and plant species: (a) Map of Côte d'Ivoire showing the geographical location of the Lamto reserve [103] (within the red line) on the African continent; (b) location of the Lamto reserve (within the red line); (c) Vegetation map of the Lamto scientific reserve, Côte d'Ivoire (source: [104] digitized by [105]); (d) Guinean savannah [106].
Figure 2. BFAST methodological workflow implemented in R. Our choice to use vegetation indices such as NDVI and EVI for change detection is based on the fact that changes in these different biomes such as gallery forests, savannahs, grasslands can be amplified by NDVI and other vegetation indices compared to spectral values [58] [59]. For example, the time series of MODIS EVI was successfully used to classify land cover in China [60] [61] [62] [63]. Furthermore, studies by [64] confirmed that MOD13Q data have been widely used to monitor vegetation dynamics and determine trends and seasonal changes in satellite image time series [65] [66].
Figure 4. Timing of long-term phenological changes detected Break in MODIS NDVI images time (2000-2020) in Lamto reserve area.

... Adoptar esta metodología e integrarla en las labores de monitoreo dentro de las instituciones gubernamentales permitirá un seguimiento más eficiente de la tala ilegal. and Trend (BFAST) which allows the analysis of time series by decomposing them into trend and seasonality components to detect and characterize changes in a definite period of time (Anoma-Kouassi et al., 2022). BFAST iteratively estimates the time and number of abrupt changes within time series and characterizes the change by its magnitude and direction (Verbesselt et al, 2010). ...

... Moreover, the region experienced a severe drought from 2014 to 2015, which caused a considerable reduction in NDVI and crop yield (Liu and Zhou 2021). However, the effect of precipitation on NDVI cannot be confounded with other biotic and abiotic factors as the index steadily increases if rainfall is abundant and vice versa (Pei et al. 2019;Achille et al. 2021). Also, the impact of temperature changes on NDVI is minimal (Wang et al. 2003). ...

... This information helps identify the kinds of projects or programs that are feasible and potential locations for them, which is helpful for both public and private investors looking to create carbon offsets. When carbon is mixed with detailed knowledge of the socioeconomic circumstances and means of subsistence of forest communities, these individuals become fundamental to the new resource commodity (Achille et al., 2021). In fact, by reducing complex events to biological assets and costs that can be represented and altered within a commercialized formula, this calculation of life aligns with neo-liberal rationalities (Fulton et al., 2017). ...
