Under the background of smart city construction, the architectural space of public places has made it difficult to meet people’s use needs. Therefore, it has become a trend to improve the architectural space of public places by intelligent design methods. This paper aims to propose an intelligent design system to meet the requirements of smart city construction through intelligent architectural feature extraction technology combined with intelligent interactive design concepts. This paper innovatively combines point cloud feature extraction technology and boundary determination technology to realize intelligent extraction of public building structures with the aid of grid technology. In addition, this paper designs experiments to validate the effect of the model proposed in this paper on feature extraction, space design, space reconstruction, and optimization of public buildings. Compared with the original model, the score of the improved model in this paper is up to 9%, which effectively improves the design and improvement quality of public building space. The results show that the intelligent interactive design concept of the public space optimization method can play a certain role in the intelligent design of buildings, not only providing a reference for the structural design of public buildings but also playing a certain role in the design of new shopping malls. Therefore, intelligent feature extraction technology combined with intelligent interactive design concepts is an effective method to promote the construction of the smart city.
