Indeed, these studies have shown that resentment against racial/ethnic minorities is independently associated with support for increased criminal justice spending (Barkan & Cohn, 2005), harsher criminal sentences (Baker et al., 2018;D. Johnson, 2001), punitive juvenile justice measures (Pickett & Chiricos, 2012), and other such policies (Peffley & Hurwitz, 1998.
