Nitrogen-atom-endohedral C60 ([email protected]60) was generated by laser induced breakdown in gaseous N2 occurring near the surface of a C60 film. The yield was estimated to be 3×10⁻⁸ ∼ 5×10⁻⁷ with respect to the empty C60. The high-density ion bunch plays a crucial role in generating [email protected]60, in contrast to the case of continuous ion beam sources.

Figure 2 Effects of treatment on mean systolic and diastolic BP and achievements of target BP. ARB, angiotensin receptor blocker; BB, β-blocker; BP, blood pressure; TD, thiazide diuretic. Data of the proportions of target blood pressure are shown as percentage of patients. Achievement rate is the proportion of patients achieving target BP (systolic BPo140 mm Hg and diastolic BPo90 mm Hg).

We compared three benidipine-based regimens—that is, benidipine plus angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), β-blocker (BB) or thiazide—and found that the benidipine–BB combination was less beneficial in reducing the risk of stroke than the benidipine–thiazide combination. This sub-analysis sought to compare the effects of reaching a target blood pressure (BP) (<140/90 mm Hg) on the cardiovascular outcomes among the three benidipine-based treatment groups in the Combination Therapy of Hypertension to Prevent Cardiovascular Events trial. This sub-analysis included 3001 subjects to evaluate the achievement of target BP at a minimum of three points at 6-month intervals of clinical BP measurements during the study period. After randomization, the patients were categorized into two groups on the basis of achieved on-treatment target BP: a good control (GC) group achieving a BP66.7% of the target and a poor control (PC) group with a BP <66.6% of the target. For each of the two control groups, outcomes were compared among the three treatment groups. The event rates for cardiovascular composite endpoints, stroke and hard cardiovascular events were higher in the PC group than the GC group (P=0.041, P=0.042 and P=0.038, respectively). Within the PC group, hazard ratios for the incidence of cardiovascular events were lower in the benidipine–thiazide group than in the benidipine–BB group (composite cardiovascular events: 2.04, P=0.033; stroke: 4.14, P=0.005; and hard cardiovascular events: 3.52, P=0.009). Within the GC group, the incidence of cardiovascular events was not different among the three treatment regimens. The benidipine–thiazide combination may provide better cardiovascular outcomes than the benidipine–BB combination even in patients with poor BP control.

In recent years, cases of IgG/IgA pemphigus, a rare subtype of pemphigus characterized by circulating IgG and IgA autoantibodies against the keratinocyte cell surface have been reported.1-6 The cutaneous manifestations of IgG/IgA pemphigus were reported to resemble those of IgA pemphigus in form, including the presence of pustules and annular lesions.1 However, no consensus on what eruptions are typical of IgG/IgA pemphigus has been established, due to the rarity of this disease. In this report, we describe a case of IgG/IgA pemphigus who developed severe crusted lesions on the seborrheic area that closely resembled facial crusted impetigo. Twelve high schools in Japan (of which six are in Fukushima Prefecture), four in France, eight in Poland and two in Belarus cooperated in the measurement and comparison of individual external doses in 2014. In total 216 high-school students and teachers participated in the study. Each participant wore an electronic personal dosimeter "D-shuttle" for two weeks, and kept a journal of his/her whereabouts and activities. The distributions of annual external doses estimated for each region overlap with each other, demonstrating that the personal external individual doses in locations where residence is currently allowed in Fukushima Prefecture and in Belarus are well within the range of estimated annual doses due to the background radiation level of other regions/countries.

Novel Polarization-diversity Scheme Based on Mutual Phase Conjugation for Fiber-nonlinearity Mitigation in Ultra-long Coherent Optical Transmission Systems

We propose a novel method of fiber-nonlinearity mitigation for ultra-long optical transmission systems, which employs two polarization modes mutually phase-conjugated. Simulations and experiments show that in the nonlinear region, this diversity method significantly outperforms both of the singleand dual-polarization schemes at the same bit rate.

... This is primarily due to the development of methods for the synthesis and extraction of endohedral fullerenes. In particular, the endohedral fullerenes N@C 60 are promising for the field of quantum computing devices, they are successfully synthesized [1,2] and studied by both experimental [3,4], theoretical and numerical simulation methods [5]. As obtained by the authors of the experimental work [6] endohedral fullerenes N@C 60 retain the nitrogen atom inside the fullerene cell up to a temperature of 500K. ...

... Typical IgG/IgA pemphigus is relatively rare, and only 20 cases have been reported so far. The clinical manifestations in these cases are diverse and characterized by pustules or annular blisters [7]. In our own clinic, we encountered a case of pustular pemphigus with IgG and IgA antibodies detected by DIF and ELISA, and the titer of Dsg1 IgA was related to the disease activity ( Figure 1) [8]. ...

... While no serious arguments against the use of the ferritic materials (withl l=l 0 > 1, where l is the magnetic permeability and l 0 ¼ 4p  10 À7 H/m is the vacuum permeability) in tokamaks have been found, the problem is not yet finally solved and experiments on JT-60SA are planned to get better understanding of the ferromagnetic effect on the plasma. 25 These perspectives, the urgent need to provide a safe path to higher b, and experimental [28][29][30][31][32][33]36,37 and theoretical 34,35 approaches to the problem make the ferromagnetic resistive wall modes (FRWMs) an important issue in tokamak research. The growth rate of such modes is the main subject of our paper. ...

... As mentioned by Ando, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in the Fukushima prefecture, it is critical to regain the trust lost after the unclear messages from governmental sources and media in situations of emergency [12]. Finally, the involvement of the general public and citizen scientists in the post-accidental recovery could have several beneficial effects: it could help to reduce anxiety caused by uncertainties and lack of knowledge on radiation and radiation protection; and it may reduce the impact of false or biased sources of information, especially mass and social media [13][14][15][16]. ...

Nonetheless, C. Lévy-Sitbon and colleagues described the case of a patient whose phenotype changed from PV to PF two years after completing a course of four infusions of rituximab. ...

In Section 2, the MRC condition for optical diversity transmission is described along with its theory established for microwave transmission and radar systems[19]. In Section 3, optical field behavior governed by the nonlinear Schrödinger equation is approximated by a fiber transfer function, and a mechanism to cancel the NLPS induced by XPM is given for MCF transmission by the fiber transfer function. ...
