En los últimos años, el concepto de riesgo ha sido incorporado al trabajo geotécnico y pueden ser encontrados en la literatura referencias de aplicaciones en la operación de túneles (Martinez-Montes et al., 2007), riesgo durante el proceso constructivo de túneles (Ehrbar & Kellemberger, 2007), diseño de túneles basados en riesgo (Siverton et al., 2004) y evaluación del riesgo de túneles (Knoflacher & Pfaffenbichler, 2004) entre otros.
