Modular integrated construction (MIC) is a more advanced form of prefabricated construction and has been increasingly used in buildings with repeating units. In this paper, a new type of through-tie rod connection joint that can meet the functional design requirements of modular buildings was proposed. The monotonic and cyclic tests under different axial pressures were carried out on four identical T-shaped joints. The seismic performance of the joints, including initial stiffness, bending capacity, ductility, and energy dissipation, were evaluated in detail. The results showed that the axial force ratio had a significant effect on the seismic performance of the joint. Within a certain range, the greater the axial force, the better the seismic performance of the joint. The performance of the beam-to-column connection had an important impact on the ductility of the joint. In addition, according to the test results, a corresponding mechanical model was established. The stiffness and bearing capacity of the joint were theoretically calculated and compared with the test results, which indicate that this joint is a partial strength joint. Finally, the corresponding design methods and design suggestions were put forward, which provided a useful reference for the connection and the application of MIC in the seismic area.

... As previous research has showed, inter-module connections (IMCs) play a crucial role in the lateral behaviour of self-standing steel modular buildings [3][4][5][6]. Thus far, a lot of effort has been put into the development of fullstrength/rigid inter-module joints (IMJs) which demonstrate good seismic performance based on capacity design which ensures that the seismic-input energy is dissipated through the hysteresis of the steel beams [7][8][9][10]. However, the significant permanent damage developed in the volumetric module hinders its demountability and reusability, while the large residual deformations greatly affect the functionality and repairability of a steel modular building in the aftermath of an earthquake. ...

... Mechanical analysis primarily includes calculations of deformation within the allowable range of material performance indicators under static loads, pre-tightening force parameters, and static response distributions [13][14][15]. The establishment and solution of dynamic models can be categorized into contact surface micro-tangential response models, lumped mass models for axial macroscopic vibrations, and torsional vibration dynamic models [16][17][18]. Moreover, by utilizing intuitive finite element models to simulate realistic load environments, the vibration response characteristics of bolted joints in working components can be obtained [19,20]. ...
