Es el prosumismo, a día de hoy, el que ha generado grandes cambios en los medios, y se escuchan las exigencias de la audiencia y esto ha llegado a traducirse en beneficio, por ejemplo, de la inclusión de diversidad cultural y de las preferencias sexuales que hoy en día existen y se reflejan más aún en los contenidos mediáticos, esto con miras a mejorar estos sectores respecto a su integración social. No obstante, como nos sugieren Barbero y German (1999), las historias que percibimos de las pantallas afectan a la percepción, y provocan que los individuos realicen un ejercicio de resemantización y así tomar conciencia sobre diversos temas, pero también los medios pueden tener otros objetivos con las audiencias, que bien pueden ser educativos o con intereses políticos.
