Marriage is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most people and all new couples want the details to be perfect for a good memory. However, in the Chinese world, it is not up to the new couple to decide all details of a wedding banquet on their own, the opinions of their parents must be considered. Therefore, under the circumstances of many decision makers with different expectations, wedding consumption decisions become onerous and complex. In this study, we used the focus group method to obtain the factors for the selection of the wedding restaurant and confirmed the key facets and criteria of the factors of wedding restaurant selection and the consumption value model through the Delphi method and then looked for the important correlation among the factors and their causal relationship through DANP analysis. The research shows that the most critical facets are “emotional value” and “social value” and that the most critical criteria are “word-of-mouth” and “restaurant evaluation.” Restaurant operators are suggested to consider the needs of customers, strengthen the quality of project package content, pay attention to online comments and voice volume, strengthen staff training and understand consumer demands.

Camping tourism is one of the fastest growing segments of the tourism industry. Global trends in camping show that this type of recreational activity has begun to emerge in Asia. Meeting the expectations of potential and current tourists in a camping destination will lead to the accomplishment of competitive advantage. The endurance involvement and place attachment play important roles in understanding camping behaviors. However, limited research identified place attachment as a moderator of the influence of endurance involvement on camping travel behavior. To fill this gap, based on place attachment theory, our study developed a conceptual model that postulates endurance involvement and place attachment as predictors of camping tourism. 216 self-administered questionnaires were retuned. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test the psychometric properties of the measures, while regression analysis was employed to assess the research hypotheses. The study results show that endurance involvement in camping affects camping travel behavior, whereas camping place dependence, camping place identity, and camping affective attachment moderate the effect of camping endurance involvement on camping travel behavior. Camping place attachment strengthens the relationship between camping endurance involvement and camping travel behavior. To maintain the sustainable development of camping tourism, campsite authorities should attach more importance to strengthening campers’ emotional bonds and concentrate on how to encourage them to participate in tourism activities. The findings have several theoretical and managerial implications for camping tourism marketing and the development of campground.

This study clarified the controversial travel constraints in the tourism literature and test the moderating role of cross-cultural adaptation (CCA) on the relationship between travel constraints and travel intention. In this study, 897 questionnaires were collected from Chinese students studying in Thailand. Structural equation modeling was adopted to test the proposed model, and the moderating effect of CCA was examined via multigroup analysis. Results demonstrated that interpersonal constraints positively influenced students’ travel intentions, whereas intrapersonal and structural constraints negatively affected such intentions. A significant moderating effect of CCA was also observed in the relationship between “interpersonal constraints and travel intentions” and “structural constraints and travel intentions”. Theoretical and practical implications for academics and practitioners in tourism and education management are provided.

Objective - General well-being (GWB) is important for students’ mental wellness. This paper explores the motivations of Chinese students who study in Thailand and applies the push and pull model to explain how motivations influence life satisfaction (LS) and GWB. Methodology/Technique – 398 convenience samples from Dhurakij Pundit University were analysed. Finding - The results show that ‘personal growth’ is the most important push factor for motivation, whereas ‘the convenience to go to other cities’ is the most important pull factor for motivation. Moreover, overseas study motivations positively influence LS and GWB. Novelty - The theoretical and practical implications and study limitations are also discussed herein. Type of Paper: Empirical. Purpose This study aims to make government usage of technology research grants more efficient and to evaluate how to use university–industry–research cooperation to promote industrial innovation in Taiwan. Design/methodology/approach This case study aims to use the triple helix model and other references to develop indicators which can estimate the performance of university–industry–research cooperation in Taiwan. The study selects three facets: “(prior) mechanisms,” “(in-progress) regulations” and “(post-hoc) operations” to find out the critical indicators contributing the final outcome. The study found that a successful university–industry–research cooperation requires the following factors: strengthening review methods for the mechanisms; its relationships of rights and obligations; policy needs in regulations; and plan incentives in operations. Findings It is recommended that, to promote university–industry–research cooperation in Taiwan, resource distributors and program management units should not only continue program application incentives and strengthen interdepartmental resource integration, they should also consider the establishment of a fair, just and open review mechanisms, and they should enhance the relationship between the rights and obligations of university–industry–research cooperation. Originality/value The study of this program includes application review before, during and after the program, management examination and performance evaluation to formulate recommendations as reference points for resource distributors and grant recipients. And because of industry–university cooperation being the main way of research and technology development, the findings and suggestions of this study may also be helpful for other grant systems in the world.

Purpose Human capital is the most important determinant of the Hospitality industry’s success. Executive chefs should be skilled in both management and culinary arts, in addition to ensuring the success of the entire hospitality division. The study aims to understand the competencies of executive chefs in international tourist hotels in Taiwan. Design/methodology/approach Literature review and behavioral event interviews were conducted with ten executive chefs and executive sous chefs. The modified Delphi method verified the results using 15 experts. Findings A competency framework was created, with four quadrants – managerial, operational, behaviors and skills – to classify executive chefs’ competencies. Each competency was further divided into sub-competencies – culinary research, emotional control, negotiation skills, job guidance and proactive thinking ability – for 25 items. Quadrants I and II are hard competencies that can be improved through education and training, whereas the third and fourth are soft competencies that require more time for development in workers. Practical implications The two-step study developed a competency framework with a practical reference value. The study results could be utilized by human resources managers during their companies’ training, recruitment, selection and promotion. Originality/value Besides the Delphi method, a deep behavioral event interview that enabled determining critical competencies was also used to collect data. The results obtained could be used to structure schools’ curricula. Collaborations between the hospitality industry and schools could help develop better curricula and training plans to maximize the availability of educational resources.

... Adventure tourists often seek out destinations that offer new and diverse experiences, leading to questions about the strength and longevity of their attachment to a single location. Additionally, the intensity of adventure experiences, which often involve high levels of physical and psychological engagement, may lead to different forms of attachment compared to other tourism segments (Wong et al., 2021). These differences raise critical research questions about how place attachment manifests in adventure tourism, what dimensions are most relevant, and how it influences behavioural outcomes such as loyalty and revisitation. ...

... Since many respondents reported passive consumptions, more work needs to be done to understand, for example, how menus are designed for events and banquets, who are the decision makers in this context, and how they can be influenced by strong social and cultural norms. It is possible that venues, event planners and caterers, as well as close relatives, could play an important role in these decisions (Lo et al., 2021), which could make them critical audiences for future demand reduction interventions. ...

... Prior research has found that language barriers, including academic and social interaction, are the most pressing concerns for international students (Kimura, 2016;Rhein, 2018). Many international students acknowledged that they want to learn native English when studying in Thailand because many English programs have opened in Thai higher education (Kuo & Wong, 2019;Mounier & Tangchuang, 2010). However, the reality is that international students are challenged to socialize with local people. ...
