There is an apparent need for building capacities for sustainable development in order to bring Africa in line with global development. This book deals with a wide variety of issues that could be categorised under the context of nationalism, national integration, development plans, sense of direction, the role and purpose of the state. The sum total of the various sections is that it examines various ways in which contemporary political and social forces interact in establishing common grounds for the emergence of modern states in Africa.
