In 1939 the oldest strain of Y. enterocolitica was isolated from human beings and the organism was called Bacterium enterocoliticum (Schleifstein and Coleman, 1939) In successive years several workers isolated the organisms and termed them different names as Pasteurella pseudotuberculosis (Hassig et al., 1949), Pasteurella X (Deniels and Goudzweard, 1963). Frederiksen (1964) studied the strains above in various names and observed that these were identical and he proposed a new name for the species as Yersinia enterocolitica. ...
