The equatorial 38 cm refracting telescope of the Paris Observatory, set up on the East Tower in 1856, was put back into service again after sixteen years without use, for the PHEMU85 campaign. A description of the instrumentation itself, and the 12 m diameter dome is given, followed by a survey of the history of this instrument and of its utilization over the last century.
