IABSE Congress Report
Summary The Upper Silesian Industrial Region is the most urbanised and industrialised part of Poland but the existing transportation system of the region is structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. The main element of the system rehabilitation is the Upper Silesian Urban Motorway (USUM)[1], one of the largest and the most expensive transportation projects in Poland. The paper presents structural, environmental, social and other aspects of the project as well as an integrated, computerbased management system supporting construction, operation and maintenance of the urban motorway.
