Foreign Language Annals
ABSTRACT Foreign language faculty have various needs for professional development. Some of these are unique to the discipline and others are shared with all other academics. This article examines the demographics of foreign language departments today, the tasks which language professors undertake as part of their professional lives, and the results of a survey of foreign language professors in three state-supported institutions in which faculty have rank ordered their professional needs. Implications for faculty development at the department level are suggested.
