‘Ka Hua Kula’ (“golden fruit” in Hawaiian) guava ( Psidium guajava L.) has been released by the Department of Horticulture to fill the need of a better cultivar for processing guava puree.

... A peak of C2H4 production occurred in all fruit after 6 days, although the absolute level in fruit of Maturities 1 and 2 was quite small. 'Beaumont', the parent cultivar of 'Ka Hua Kula' (Nakasone and Ito, 1978) and 'GA 11-56', a processing-cultivar selected in Australia from Hawaiian stock (Walker et al., 1979) and now widely propagated commercially in Australia, were examined at Maturities 3 and 4 only, and exhibited similar behaviour to 'Ka Hua Kula'. There was a gradual loss of green colour (least in 'GA 11-56'), after 6 days. ...
