Pelung is one of the most importance local chicken in Indonesia. Genetic introgression and inbreeding depression were the major threat for local chicken gene pool. The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of serial inbreeding mating to plumage colours of Pelung chicken. Pure Pelung chicken which purchased from Cianjur sub-district was undergo full-sib mating through five generation. All offspring phenotypes was recorded. The results show gradual plumage phenotype change of inbreed Pelung chicken. Initially, adult male chicken had Black-red coloured as wildtype (WT) shifted to partridge and black-silver coloured in later generations. The current findings indicating that inbreeding made recessive traits to be expressed which some of them might had deleterious effect. Random mating should be maintained to preserve genetics stability of Pelung chicken

Growth response of local hybrid chicken to dietary crude protein and energy levels in effort to national meat self-sufficient

Local meat-typed chicken sparseness and its low growth performance are two main problems in national’s meat self sufficient. Recently, genetic improvement and feeding strategies on hybrid chicken (Layer x Bangkok) was conducted. Current research aims are to investigate the growth characteristic of hybrid chicken, body weight comparison to other local breeds [Kamper (Layer x chicken var. Pelung); Gama ayam (Pelung x broiler); Pelung; Layer], and determine the effect of Crude Protein (CP) and energy levels (ME) in starter diet on growth. The experimental design used in this study was completely randomized design (CRD) involving 120 chicks which divided into 4 treated groups, each group consisting 10 individuals and each treatment run in triplicate. Through 14 days rearing, DOC on each treated group fed by feed A (15% CP; 3200 kcal/kg ME), feed B (19% CP; 3400 kcal/kg ME), feed C (20% CP; 3500 kcal/kg ME) and feed D (21% CP; 3200 kcal/kg ME) from hatch. Hybrid chicken weight was measured on 0, 3, 7, and 14 day old. Result indicating growth rate was high and proper being meat-type chicken. Feed D was most suitable starter diet for early age body mass enlargement. Hybrid chicken was feasible being mass cultivated by small and medium farm.

... Conversely, BCAA deficiency hinders the differentiation of myoblasts and primary satellite cells (Wang et al., 2022). The pectoralis muscle, situated in the thorax, boasts low levels of fat and an acidification rate, rendering it a suitable indicator for assessing the growth performance of broilers (Puspita et al., 2016). As illustrated in Table 4, protein in TGP can enhance myofiber area, total myofiber count, and the muscle weight index. ...
