... In 2012, 10 million GM male mosquitoes were released in the wild to decrease the number of Aedes mosquitoes and reduce the rate of dengue transmission. A closer monitoring of the insects revealed that over 85 % of the eggs were Wolbachia-positive which indicated that GMmosquitoes were overriding wild-mosquitoes resulting in decreased virus transmission [116].
