Harold Bussell

Observes that every major contemporary cult (with the exception of Eastern cults) began in an evangelical church or with a leader from an evangelical background. Similarities between cults and evangelical churches include an overemphasis on subjective experience, expectations of an ideal pastor, an emphasis on guidance and group sharing, and a tendency toward independence. Suggestions are offered to help evangelicals resist cults (e.g., building relationships with Christians from different backgrounds).
