The IMKONOS project includes a feasibility study for the establishment of an interdisciplinary network of marine science competence for a model area in the Baltic Sea as well as the experimental development of an information system on an exchange platform. The "Interdisciplinary Network of Marine Science Competence" had the the goal, especially for areas of the German Baltic Sea, to create the prerequisites German Baltic Sea, so that an effective and interdisciplinary characterization of the marine environment can be carried out. In the process it was found out which information from existing data sets can be used. The IMKONOS system then ensured that all information was spatially, temporal and methodological fit. In addition, a web-based information portal was created to make this information accessible. The project was founded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
