An acidic polysaccharide from Sabal serrulata Roem. et Schult (Serenoa repens, [Bart] Small) showed at extremely low doses inhibiting activity on the carrageenin paw oedema and pellet test of the rat, but did not influence the proliferative phase of inflammation.

... activity. Altogether, these findings indicated that polysaccharides of A. lappa leaves inhibited one feature (edema) of inflammatory process and have potential to be used as an anti-inflammatory compound. Anti-edematogenic activity promoted by pectic polysaccharides, in the carrageenan-induced paw edema model, has been described in the literature.Wagner et al. (1981) [36] reported an arabinorhamnogalacturonan which inhibited paw edema by approximately 80% at a dose of 1 mg/kg, whereasPuhlmann et al. (1992) [37] showed a rhamnogalacturonan which reduced the edema volume in 33% over a period of 8 h at a dose of 3 mg/kg. ...
