How can countries in the far north and with relatively low populations be competitive and active on the world market? Based on a strong industrial tradition, some of the world's most respected and successful companies originate from the Nordic countries. A review of the markets in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden indicates five of the top 10 countries and three of the top ten country and business markets in the world competitive ranking. Despite difficult times for the traditional textile industry, the nonwovens companies are expanding and increasing their market shares, providing solutions and alternatives for global customers. The strategic location between Eastern and Western Europe has opened up many new opportunities in the enlarged Europe, and future growth expectations should remain high.
