In a small sample of emerging adults (n = 41), emerging adults' levels of felt obligation toward parents were not associated with psychological symptoms, well-being, and loneliness (Abraham & Stein, 2010). However, in a sample of 502 adolescents, McAuliffe (2010) found that higher levels of some aspects of felt obligation toward mothers were associated with higher levels of psychological adjustment.
