A review of the theories of torsion field is given, generation and detection of torsion fields are considered. Experimental manifestations of torsion fields and torsion-based techniques are described. An account is given of the experiments with torsion fields conducted at Perm University. The program of research intended by the Perm scientists is presented.

A concept about the effect of a torsional field on the electrochemical (involving charge transfer) reactions of spin-polarized particles is advanced. Effects are found when examining hydrogen permeability of palladium membranes in the system Pd/0.5 M H2SO4, Pd/0.1 M NaOH and also in the investigation of the electrode potential changes in the system Cu/x M CuSO4 + 0.5 M H2SO4 (x = 0.01 and 1.0). A hypothesis is put forward that torsional fields alter the potential of interaction in the electrochemical systems in question, and can affect both the crystal's phonon spectrum and spin orientation of reacting particles.
