Giampiero Moretti was born in Rome in 1955. He earned his law degree in 1977 and a degree in philosophy in 1980 from ‘La Sapienza’ University in Rome. From 1981 to 1983, and in 1987 and 1994 he worked at the University of Freiburg, Germany under a D.A.A.D research grant. In 1996, he worked at the University of Bochum under a research grant from the A. von Humboldt Foundation. In 1992, he was appointed Associate Professor of Aesthetics at ‘L'Orientale’ University in Naples, Italy, and in 2000 was elevated to the position of Full Professor. His research is mainly focused on German romanticism (several books as well as translations of works) and on the philosophy of Heidegger (books and articles). He is currently working on a book dealing with the relationship between aesthetics and literature, beginning with the concept of “image.”
