Alvania dalmatica n. sp. from Croatian coasts of Dalmatia is here described and figured. It is compared with several congeneric species, A. parvula (Jeffreys, 1884), A. vermaasi van Aartsen, 1975, A. dictyophora (Philippi, 1844), A. hallgassi Amati & Oliverio, 1985, and especially A. dianiensis Oliverio, 1988, morphologically the most closely related to the new species; however, they substantially differ in protoconch morphology, geographic distribution, bathymetrical range, or, only for some of them, habitat, when known. The type material was collected off Lastovo Island (Croatia) at depths of 60-90 m, associated with Corallium rubrum, but the species is also recorded from two other localities, the islands of Mljet and Sušac.

... This phenomenon of reduction of axial sculpture can also be encountered in A. dictyophora (R. A. Philippi, 1844) (in Romani et al., 2017, page 72, fig. 2G), or A. cingulata (Philippi, 1836) or even some forms of A. hallgassi Amati & Oliverio, 1985, but the protoconch morphology of our specimen and its dense granular texture of its surface clearly differentiate it from them (Amati & Oliverio, 1985;Buzzurro & Prkić, 2007;Garilli, 2008;Romani, 2015).
