Francisca Cerdá Vara’s scientific contributions

The paper analyze 21 months of functioning of the online Union Catalogue of the Valencian Public Reading Network. It splits of initial situation of state of computerization in the year 2000 of the Valencian public libraries to explainthe different stages of the program: Establishment of aims, previous merger of catalogues and planning of migration of catalogues in phases and according to SIGBs, problems and adopted measurements, results reached after 21 months of functioning, statistical information, creation of parallel projects (Portal of Valencian Libraries, Valencian Union Catalogue, Xabib, Groups of works in net …) and future lines of work. In sum, an experience of results very positive, but whose process demands a constant adoption of measures for the resolution of effects.

In September 2001 the Union Catalogue of the Valencian Public Reading Network began to function. This article describes the entire management process that oversaw development and implementation of this online catalogue. The issues analysed include the initial proposal, IT systems requirements, merging of the catalogues, unifying library criteria and policies, new possibilities enabled by the co-operative endeavour, and improvements to user services.

The article analyzes the Program of Common Automation of the Valencian Libraries initiated in the Valencian Community (Spain) on September 18 of 2001. It describes the aims of the Cooperative Union Catalogue online of the Valencian Libraries.
