In this study, we have developed an efficient protocol for synthesis of phosphorus-substituted heterocycles through reaction between 2-Aryl quinoxalines and dialkyl phosphites under transition-metal-free conditions. Here, K2S2O8 has been used as the sole oxidant for the facile synthesis of phosphorus substituted derivates. A variety of heteroaryl phosphonate derivatives have been synthesized under optimized conditions in good to excellent yields with this facile and environment friendly protocol.

... [26,27] Direct phosphonylation of pyrazines and quinoxalines is much less elaborated than for other aromatic heterocycles. [27] So far dialkyl phosphonate derivatives of pyrazines or quinoxalines have been prepared either by their oxidative CÀ H/PÀ H coupling reaction with dialkyl phosphites (aerobic, [28] electrochemical [29] or with K 2 S 2 O 8 in MeCN [30,31] ) (Scheme 1, Path C), or from their halogen derivatives by an Arbuzov-type reaction with trialkyl phosphites [32,33] or the Michaelis-Becker reaction with dialkyl phosphites [34,35] (Scheme 1, Path D). ...
