Depuis 2015, le contexte d'attentats à répétition les conforte dans un rôle de police à part entière et favorise plus encore leur développement : les recrutements sont en hausse, la tendance est à la généralisation de l'armement, et l'inflexion sécuritaire de l'activité est manifeste, encouragée par le législateur au travers d'une série de dispositions qui continuent d'accroître les compétences répressives des policiers municipaux (Millet, 2017).
