Abstract In this diploma thesis we investigate in the framework of perturbative algebraic quantum field theory the anomalies of the master Ward identity, which was proposed in [1] as a new, universal renormalization condition. By showing the validity of a similar identity, we get a better understanding of these anomalies. We develop an eective, field formalism and find analogies between this identity and the quantum, action principle of Lam and Lowenstein. As an application of the master Ward identity we consider the problem of consistent interactions between gauge fields and give a cohomological derivation of the Yang-Mills interaction in gauge fixed BRST-formalism.
