Era digital telah membawa kemudahan dalam mengakses informasi, namun tantangan baru muncul dalam memastikan kualitas literasi akademik di kalangan mahasiswa. Banyak mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami, mengelola, dan menulis karya ilmiah secara efektif, terutama di tengah tingginya jumlah informasi yang tersedia secara daring. Program pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan literasi informasi dan keterampilan penulisan karya ilmiah bagi mahasiswa melalui edukasi berbasis lokakarya dan pendampingan intensif. Kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui pelatihan teknik pencarian literatur, evaluasi sumber, penulisan akademik, serta etika publikasi secara digital. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman mahasiswa terkait literasi digital dan kemampuan menulis akademik yang lebih terstruktur. Program ini diharapkan dapat memperkuat keterampilan akademik mahasiswa serta meningkatkan kontribusi mereka dalam dunia ilmiah.


PUBLIC SPEAKING LEARNING ASSISTANCE TO INCREASE STUDENTS' CONFIDENCE

Public speaking is a skill that everyone, including students, should have to increase their self-confidence. Public speaking cannot be avoided since basically humans often have to do it with various purposes. However, many students feel unable to speak in public because they lack confidence, don't master the material, or don't understand how to do it. This community service activity aims to do learning assistance for public speaking to increase the self-confidence of students at Gajah Mada Middle School, Medan. The methods used were direct lecturer, simulations and interactive discussions regarding the basics of public speaking, effective and good communication techniques, and various tips for developing yourself, especially in terms of public speaking. During the learning assistance, participants received basic material and public speaking techniques as well as direct practice. Meanwhile, the research used qualitative method for collecting data. As for the research results, the community service recommends the following: 1) Add extra hours to improve students’ English speaking, 2) Add contest that can motivate students to increase their confidence in public speaking, especially in English language.

Digital storytelling, coupled with Artificial Intelligence (AI), has emerged as a powerful tool for enhancing language skills in learners. This study explores the multifaceted applications of digital storytelling based AI in the realm of language education, shedding light on its pedagogical benefits and innovative possibilities. However, while the potential of AI digital storytelling is promising, it also presents several significant challenges. It critically examines the challenges and offer insights into its application for language classroom. The data were 12 journal publications studied searched on the Publish or Persih, Google Scholar and Scopus database and its publication time range is in 2020- 2023. By conducting narrative review, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the evolving intersection of technology and the benefits of AI- digital storytelling in language. education


The Role of Culture Awareness in Teaching English as a Foreign Language

Many modern researchers have explained the need and rationale for a wide range of cultural studies in combination with foreign language teaching. However, questions remain as to the content selection, forms of work and technologies that provide students with active interactions, and complete immersion. The paper focuses on the research questions: How can cultural knowledge and understanding be incorporated into the context of English language teaching? Findings indicates that including a culturally appropriate approach to foreign language instruction into professional training improves the art and cultural awareness of aspiring English teachers by allowing them to apply their acquired cultural knowledge in cross-cultural communication scenarios. It helps people become more focused on their jobs. Their motivation is increased, and an environment of openness and inquiry is fostered via cultural studies. The questionnaire was completed by 24 respondents.Keywords : pedagogic competence, teachers, cooperative learning

Foreign Language Reading Anxiety (FLRA) becomes increasingly crucial for EFL students since it prevents the learners' reading grasp. This study reports on college students’ reflections on reading. The study's main objective was to determine students' reading anxiety levels and discover the most potential factors contributing to students’ Foreign Language Reading Anxiety (FLRA) in TOEFL Test. It was administered to 22 students of the English Department in Universitas Pembinaan Masyarakat Indonesia using purposive sampling in the academic year 2022/2023. To achieve this purpose, this study utilized both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The data were collected using a Foreign Language Reading Anxiety Scale (FLRAS) questionnaire with five-point Likert scale participants and an interview sheet to examine the levels of their reading anxiety and its factors. The results demonstrate that the student's reading anxiety levels were 18% in the low category, 64% in the medium category, and 18% in the high category. It indicates that they experienced a medium level of anxiety while reading with unfamiliar vocabulary and unknown topics, and the fear of making mistakes was identified as the significant factor of FL reading anxiety.


Meningkatkan Kemampuan Berbicara Bahasa Inggris Mahasiswa dengan Project-Based Learning Berbasis Hots

Kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris merupakan salah satu aspek penting dalam pembelajaran bahasa asing, namun seringkali siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam mengembangkan keterampilan tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris mahasiswa melalui penggunaan Project-Based Learning (PjBL) berbasis Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas selama dua siklus dengan melibatkan 40 mahasiswa Universitas Pembangunan Panca Budi. Setiap siklus terdiri dari perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Pada setiap siklus, mahasiswa diberikan proyek berbicara bahasa Inggris yang melibatkan HOTS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris mahasiswa setelah penerapan model PjBL berbasis HOTS. Mahasiswa menunjukkan kemampuan yang lebih baik dalam menyusun kalimat, menggunakan tata bahasa yang tepat, dan menyampaikan pesan dengan jelas dan koheren. Selain itu, model PjBL berbasis HOTS mendorong mahasiswa untuk lebih aktif dalam pembelajaran, meningkatkan motivasi dan meningkatkan kolaborasi dan kerja sama antar siswa. Penggunaan model PjBL berbasis HOTS dapat menjadi alternatif yang efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa khususnya mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir kritis dan kreatif, serta memperluas pengetahuan dan pemahaman mereka dalam bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk untuk melihat efektivitas atau pengaruh Gaya Kepemimpinan Kepala Sekolah terhadap Kinerja Guru di SMKN 1 Percut Sei Tuan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik observasi, angket, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis statistik deskriptif dan analisis statistik inferensial. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Kepemimpinan kepala sekolah memiliki pengaruh positif terhadap kinerja guru. Dengan demikian dapat dinyatakan bahwa gaya kepemimpinan kepala sekolah sangat baik. Hal ini dikarenakan jadwal sekolah dan pengarahan yang baik, kepala sekolah motivasi terhadap pengajar, dan kepala sekolah memperhatikan ketersediaan wahana pembelajaran termasuk sarana teknologi di sekolah.

Keterampilan literasi menjadi pilar penting untuk masa depan pendidikan. Untuk itu membangun budaya literasi perlu melibatkan peran aktif secara bersama-sama khususnya di lingkungan pendidikan. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan literasi siswa di pesantren. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah berupa pelatihan atau training. Pelatihan literasi ditujukan kepada siswa-siswi Pesantren Darussalam Guntur Batubara yang terdiri dari siswa tingkat SMP. Metode yang digunakan untuk mencapai tujuan yaitu dengan pelatihan membaca, pelatihan menulis, dan praktik. Dari hasil pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner dan wawancara, diketahui bahwa kegiatan pelatihan literasi memberi pengaruh positif terhadap kesadaran literasi bagi siswa khususnya di lingkungan pesantren. Dampak yang diharapkan dari kegiatan tersebut adalah meningkatnya motivasi membaca siswa dengan memanfaatkan pojok literasi, serta meningkatnya kemampuan membaca pemahaman dengan meringkas.Kata Kunci: pelatihan, peningkatan, literasi, pesantren

Banyak model pembelajaran yang bisa diintegrasikan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis argumentasi siswa. Salah satunya model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning . Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis argumentasi mahasiswa dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning (Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah). Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di Universitas Pembinaan Masyarakat Indonesia semester 6 tahun akademik 2021/2022 yang berjumlah 24 orang. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik tes dan teknik non tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning (PBL) dapat meningkatkan keterampilan menulis argumentasi mahasiswa yang terbukti dari nilai rata-rata yang mengalami peningkatan dari nilai 63 menjadi nilai 84. Tindakan ini mengalami peningkatan sekitar 2%. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dapat dikatakan mahasiswa juga belajar dengan aktivitas yang baik dan dengan respons yang positif terhadap penerapan PBL. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan beberapa langkah pengelolaan pembelajaran menggunakan PBL untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis argumentasi mahasiswa.
