Featured Application An artificial intelligence-driven elderly monitoring system that preserves the visual privacy of the subjects under surveillance while providing essential visual context and essential wellness status to caregivers. Abstract The need for privacy in elderly care is crucial, especially where constant monitoring can intrude on personal dignity. This research introduces the development of a unique camera-based monitoring system designed to address the dual objectives of elderly care: privacy and safety. At its core, the system employs an AI-driven technique for real-time subject anonymization. Unlike traditional methods such as pixelization or blurring, our proposed approach effectively removes the subject under monitoring from the scene, replacing them with a two-dimensional avatar. This is achieved through the use of YOLOv8, which facilitates accurate real-time person detection and pose estimation. Furthermore, the proposed system incorporates a fall detection algorithm that utilizes a residual causal convolutional network together with motion features of persons to identify emergency situations and promptly notify caregivers in the event of a fall. The effectiveness of the system is evaluated to emphasize its advanced privacy protection technique and fall detection capabilities using several metrics. This evaluation demonstrates the system’s proficiency in real-world applications and its potential to enhance both safety and privacy in elderly care environments.

Through strategically implementing sustainable practices, businesses can enhance their public image and incentivize consumers to purchase environmentally friendly products. In recent years, many enterprises have actively pursued corporate social responsibility, striving to achieve profitability, fairness, and societal benefits simultaneously, thus creating a beneficial cycle for both businesses and the environment. The COVID-19 pandemic has altered brand perceptions and consumer habits, impacting not only packaging materials, product life cycles, and corporate social responsibility but also significantly impacted sustainability. Personal care products are utilized by individuals on a daily basis, emphasizing the need to consider various indicators in designing brand image strategies to ensure sustainable development. This study focuses on indicators for sustainable brand image design strategies within the personal care product indicators, employing a modified Delphi method to establish these indicators. The relative weights of these indicators were determined using the Analytic Hierarchy Process. The research findings underscore that conveying brand ideals to consumers, committing to brand values, enhancing brand visibility, and creating value are considered the most crucial indicators in the design of sustainable branding strategies for personal care products. These results provide essential insights for researchers and brand developers to formulate corresponding strategies, thereby achieving sustainable brand development and enhancing competitiveness.

Taiwan has a rapidly increasing aging population with a considerably high life expectancy rate, which poses challenges for healthcare and medical systems. This study examines three key factors: safety concerns, family expectations, and privacy concerns, and their influence on surveillance system installation decisions. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving a group of physically active older adults in Taiwan, using a questionnaire to collect data on the reasons for in-stalling a surveillance system and preferences for three image privacy protection techniques: blurring the face and transformation to a 2D or 3D character. The study concluded that while safety concerns and family expectations facilitate the adoption of surveillance systems, privacy concerns serve as a significant barrier. Furthermore, older adults showed a clear preference for avatar-based privacy protection methods over simpler techniques, such as blurring. The outcomes of this research will be instrumental in shaping the development of privacy-conscious home surveillance technologies, adeptly balancing safety and privacy. This understanding can pave the way for technology design that skillfully balances privacy concerns with remote monitoring quality, thereby enhancing the well-being and safety of this demographic. These results could possibly be extended to other demographics as well.

During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic in Taiwan, 6.5% of Generation Y required medical treatment for emotional and stress-related mental disorders. This study explores the moderating effect of mindfulness training on psychological needs and emotions to propose effective measures to promote the mental health of Generation Y. This study was carried out by questionnaire, using the data of respondents born in 1980–1999, collected in three different periods for quantitative analysis with compassionate mindfulness as the main variable. The results show that the compassionate mindfulness effect on emotion regulation varies greatly among different educational levels. However, it still plays a positive role in the psychological needs of Generation Y. Most members of Generation Y who receive compassionate mindfulness training have fewer basic needs and more interpersonal trust. They pay more attention to individual-oriented self-realization. Compassionate mindfulness has a greater positive moderating effect on the mental health of women aged 30–39 and those who are highly educated. Compassionate mindfulness has a more positive moderating effect on the psychological needs of members of Generation Y who were born more recently. During the COVID-19 pandemic, providing compassionate mindfulness has a significant positive effect on the prevention of mental disorders of Generation Y in Taiwan.

In response to the development of religious personalization, the old marketing strategies of most religious destinations have been unable to effectively promote their popularity in modern times. This article deeply explored how to use contemporary art to design religious destinations comprehensively and proposed an effective solution to enhance the popularity of religious destinations in religious tourism. We established an actor network in religious tourism with qualitative and quantitative analyses and took the Buddhism Yuan-Dao Guanyin Temple in Taiwan as a case analysis. We found temples to be the main actors in religious tourism networks and temple organizations to serve as their spokespersons. The successful obligatory point of passage (OPP) in the network was that “the religious performance of Yuan-Dao Guanyin Temple is a contemporary art style, and every subject who enters the temple field can obtain interests”. This is primarily formulated by the interaction between religion and contemporary art. The results show that adopting a contemporary art style in this case can successfully expand the popularity of the religious destination. Through the actor network model proposed in this paper, it can be used as a strategy for other religious destinations to improve religious tourism.

This study aimed to examine the depression risk factors for knowledge workers aged 20–64 in the post-capitalist society of Taiwan. Interview data from 2014 and 2019 were adopted for quantitative analysis of the depression risk by demographic and individual characteristics. The results showed that the depression risks of knowledge workers were not affected by demographic variables in a single period. From 2014 to 2019, the prevalence of high depression risk in knowledge workers aged 20–64 years increased over time. The more attention is paid to gender equality in society, the less the change in the gender depression index gap may be seen. Positive psychological state and family relationships are both depression risk factors and depression protective factors. Being male, married, religious, and aged 45–49 years old were found to be critical risk factors. Variables of individual characteristics could effectively predict depression risk.

Incense bags is a religious product with the characteristics of folk belief and culture in Taiwan. Moderate commercialization is of positive significance to the preservation of religious culture and the development of religious culture products. According to the survey of customer attitudes towards incense bags commercialization and the development of customer HVM, this study finds that young people are very supportive of the commercialization of incense bags, and that the sense of design and religious meaning are considered to be the necessary conditions for commercialization design. Among the product appearance design attributes, if the overall sense can convey the visual perception and cognition of exquisiteness, conciseness and link to religious experience, it can create the customer values of Religion, artistry and Personalize. In this way, the commercialization process of incense bags will not be commodity oriented, but can retain their religious significance while having the opportunity to create customer values.

Medical institutions provide guidance on caring skills for home caregivers. Oral teaching is combined with graphical tools in a method that has been proved to be an effective way of quickly mastering home caring skills and promotes effective learning for home caregivers. The graphic design and operation contents of this method are constantly revised through interviews and observations, and by carrying out home care application graphics it forms a spiral structure of Plan–Do–Study–Act (PDSA) participatory action research (PAR). In the three cycles of the operation of PDSA PAR, the designers accurately create graphics of the caring details based on the nurses’ demonstrations and develop health education tools that are suitable to provide continuous assistance and services in real-life situations. PAR combined with PDSA, in each of the three cycles of the operation—design personnel, medical personnel and home caregiver personnel, respectively—as the lead roles, guide the planning decisions for PAR. This study is a reference for the improvement and development of medical graphics for health education tools to improve accuracy.
