The elements of body composition and their correlation with physical activity, body image, and self-esteem are aspects that require in-depth studies. This link should be seen in the context of the percentage of adipose tissue, which can be modeled via physical activity. The objective of this study is to evaluate the relationships between the parameters that define body composition, self-esteem, body image, and physical activity according to gender. This study included 100 females and 100 males with an average age of 22 years. The evaluation included anthropometric parameters, body composition, self-esteem, physical activity index, and body image perception assessment. The results show that the males exhibited a higher percentage of exceeding the upper limit of normal and average weight; in contrast, there were two times more females exhibiting normal weight than those exceeding the upper limit. Therefore, obesity was higher among males. The average fitness score values were 69.07 for females and 76.53 for males, and the mean fitness was within normal limits. Regarding body image, according to the BSQ, we observed that both groups were not satisfied with and were concerned about their body shape. With respect to the Rosenberg self-esteem scale, the average score for females was 20.27, and for males, it was 19.60; the mean self-esteem value was 66% of the maximum value. In terms of the perceived ideal body size assessed with the Silhouette scale, most of the females were placed at level 3, and the males were placed at level 4. Regarding the physical activity index, females carried out on average 1.5 days of intense physical activity over 7 days, and males were involved in intense physical activity for 2 days. Conclusions: The degree of obesity and therefore the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome were higher in males than in females. Although males have a higher degree of obesity, self-esteem is quantified at a higher level of confidence.

This article presents the results of a study on the levels of knowledge, skill, management and attitudes of physiotherapists working in Lithuania, regarding the application of electrical stimulation (ES) in clinical practice. The study was conducted as part of the Erasmus+ European Union-funded vocational training project ‘The Importance of Clinical Electrical Stimulation in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation’ (CK4Stim). A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with 31 physiotherapists, who completed a questionnaire developed by the project partners to assess their levels of knowledge, skill, management and attitude towards ES. The surveys were conducted using the Google Forms platform. Statistical data analysis of the study was performed using the SPSS 21.0 program. Although the results varied depending on the question, most participants indicated that their level of knowledge regarding the application of ES for various conditions was average. Less than 50% of the participants rated their skill and management level of ES as average. The types of current chosen by participants for the treatment of different conditions varied greatly, and in many cases, the selected sequences of ES currents were inappropriate. In conclusion: the participants generally considered their knowledge and attitude levels to be average, but their skill and management levels were below average. We found that the level of knowledge, skill, management and attitude of physiotherapists working in Lithuania is below average, so it is necessary to change these aspects in the clinical, evidence-based practice of physiotherapists.

Background: According to statistics, worldwide, the number of young persons diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis has tripled in the last 10 years. This tendency seems to be related to the development of technological devices that induce vicious postures. Specialized literature shows that the predicted evolution will lead to a tripling of the population affected by scoliosis by 2050. Associated complications can be most varied, with functional or respiratory and cardiac impairment being the most severe. The purpose of this study is to objectify the effect of associating Schroth therapy with general elements of global postural reeducation (GPR) therapy in the treatment of scoliosis using electromyography, scoliosis assessment scales, and sleep quality evaluation. The present study is addressed to scoliotic patients. Methods: In order to assess the muscle imbalance installed in scoliosis, we have used SEMG, while Epworth, Baecke, and SAQ scales assessed sleepiness, physical activity levels, and self-perception of the scoliotic patient. Results: After performing a therapeutic protocol that combines Schroth and global postural reeducation (GPR) exercises, an improvement of the functional status was observed for the scoliotic patients. The statistical analysis presents a favorable symmetry index during flexion (p = 0.042), a significant difference in the Epworth score (p = 0.002), as well as a significant difference in the SAQ2 score (p = 0.049). Conclusion: Early detection of scoliosis prevents functional degradation. On the other hand, developing an adequate therapeutic protocol leads to an improved functional status and increased life quality.
