A groundnut roasting machine has been developed with a roasting chamber made of steel sheet of AISI 1015. The chamber will be heated up to 105°C for the roasting process to occur. This paper is focused on the thermo-structural analysis of the chamber to ascertain whether the material can withstand the stress generated in the process. Thermal structural analysis is the application of the finite element method (FEM) to calculate the temperature distribution within a solid structure, which is due to the thermal inputs (heat loads), outputs (heat loss), and thermal barriers (thermal contact resistance) in a design. SolidWorks 2019 thermal and static simulation tool was used for the investigation. The maximum von-mises stress obtained is 317 MPa which is within safe working stress of the material.

Crushers are needed in several industries for the purpose of size reduction. They are invaluable machines in laboratories (higher institutions and research centres), mining and construction industries. Available crushers are imported and very expensive. This has pushed some workers around the country to crush stones with crude materials and manual labour, to meet the demand of the various sectors while neglecting the hazards involved. A hammer mill has been designed with due considerations to standard design requirements, local content and cost. The power required to crush granite with the desired through put of 400kg/h was found to be 5,480W. Major factors considered for the material selection are the mechanical properties, wear of materials, fabrication requirement and cost. The machine was fabricated with locally available materials and tested. The actual capacity was found to be 301 kg/h after the performance evaluation of the machine, and through-put efficiency was found to be 75.4 %. The crushed products were well graded with 1.89 coefficient of gradation and uniformity coefficient of 10.22. The machine was produced at a cost of two hundred and forty five thousand, two hundred naira (₦245,200.00 {US$817.33}).
