Several groups of African Americans seeking to preserve and advance the educational history of their communities, and also seeking facilities to offer various kinds of educational and community programming, have focused their efforts on the buildings that once served as segregated schoolhouses. These schools, generally known as Rosenwald Schools, symbolize an important part of African American cultural history.1
