Against the background of the serious geopolitical changes in the country and in the world, vocational education, especially the aspects related to a foreign language training of students, is undergoing a significant transformation. The very clearly manifested tendency to reduce the classroom-based activities of communication with students remains the prevailing factor, which forces methodologists to focus their attention on finding some new effective tools to compensate for the number of hours that are obviously insufficient for the development of communication skills in a foreign language. The authors believe that the indicated problem can be solved in the widespread use of the method compression by involving the patterning method in the study process. The purpose of the study is to investigate the potential of the patterning method as a means of method compression implementing in the professionally oriented foreign language training of students at non-linguistic universities. The authors are convinced that despite the widespread use of the patterning method in the practice of teaching foreign languages, it has not received worthy theoretical consideration in the domestic linguistic and didactic field, especially within the framework of university foreign language education, which predetermined the relevance of the study. In the article, the authors consider in detail the patterning method and its use technology in a professionally oriented environment at non-linguistic universities when implementing a foreign language training of students. The results of a pedagogical experiment on the introduction of the method under study into the process of education are also presented. The article suggests a possible block of the patterns when studying the topic «My University». In the conclusion part, the authors identify the components of the patterning method that affect the effectiveness of mastering course content and contribute to the level increase of a foreign language communicative competence among students at non-linguistic universities.

The relevance of the given research can be explained by the fact that concepts of colour represent significant information about the hierarchy of values within the linguistic community and contribute to the notion «colour picture of the world». It is reasonable to conduct a research of colour from the perspective of cultural linguistics, in particular, of its branch, linguistic conceptology. The article provides a linguo-cultural analysis of the colour conceptual sphere, represented by phraseological units with colour attribute and colour words in the english, french and russian languages. The objectives of the research are to carry out a comparative analysis of phraseological units with colour attribute and colour words in the english, french and russian languages and reveal their universality, difference and their unique character in the linguistic cultures under consideration. The main methods of the research are comparative and interpretation analyses as well as etymological and quantitative methods. The main sources for the research are phraseological units with colour attribute and words denoting colour collected from english, french and russian phraseology dictionaries using the continuous sampling method. The research has led to the following conclusions: man perceives the world around through colours, because colour accompanies almost all manifestations of human life; every language culture is characterized by its own ethnic-priority and ethnic-relevant colours; colour acts as an expression of universality, difference and uniqueness in the perception of the outside world. The theoretical significance of the study lies in the development of linguistic and cultural conceptology with regard to the conceps of colour.

Stress in the Russian language is traditionally considered to be primarily quantitative. The role of other acoustic parameters, intensity in particular, involved in producing the prominence effect, has not been sufficiently covered. Thus, the use of temporal and dynamic parameters of emphatic stress is of special interest. Duration and intensity in words with neutral and emphatic stress are analyzed. The speech material for analysis comprises the word 'Stas' embedded in the carrier phrase 'Stas ne byl tihoney' ('Stas was not quiet') with the target word occupying initial, medial and final positions in the phrase; in each position the word was pronounced with neutral and emphatic stress. Praat software was used to extract the duration and average intensity of the sound [a] in the word 'Stas'. The Student paired t-test was used to note the significance of difference between neutrally and emphatically stressed vowels. The analysis has shown an increase in vowel duration in emphatically stressed words. A general trend is observed to temporally mark the vowel in the phrase initial and phrase final positions. The emphatically stressed vowels were pronounced with higher intensity. This is achieved through an increase of either absolute or relative intensity values. The degree of both duration and intensity increase varies among the speakers. Due to a high correlation between the duration and energy curves of vowels, it does not seem expedient to describe stress with the energy parameter.
