Different design strategies for self-healing materials are described in this editorial. In this study autonomic self-healing process in composite material is shown using microencapsulated healing agent. The components for self-healing are urea formaldehyde capsule with dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) monomer and paraffin wax microspheres containing 10 wt% Grubbs catalyst. Any damage initiated in the composite, leads to a release of the microcapsule inside the composite. This microcapsule releases the healing agent, where it makes contact with catalyst and thus initiating polymerization to heal the cracks. The study also discusses some of the application areas for self-healing materials in textile composite and possible future application in the same field.
