Spectra of optical activity of cholesteric compositions are obtained in the region λ = 0.3-10 μm at temperatures corresponding to liquid, mesomorphic, and solid phases. It is shown that the magnitudes of optical activity in the IR spectral region and independence of polarization characteristics of the azimuth of the polarization plane of incident radiation suggest that the structure of these compositions in a mesomorphic phase represents a combination of clusters having parallel spiral axes with arbitrary relative phases. The cluster diameters are smaller than the wavelength of visible radiation.
