While prior research (Wilson and Bellezza 2022) has helped generate an appreciation and understanding of minimalistic consumption, along with defining minimalistic consumption, we contribute to the literature by building on this definition and developing a scale to measure the different types of minimalistic motives. Research argues that a minimalistic life involves renouncing materialism while focusing on an uncomplicated lifestyle (Elgin 1981) with an aspiration to maximize consumption utility (Pangarkar et al. 2021).
