This study examines the role of information and communication technology (ICT) skill development programs, such as the Digital Talent Scholarship and ICT Jamboree, in empowering people with disability across Indonesia. Grounded in empowerment theory, it investigates how these programs contribute to personal autonomy, economic engagement, and social inclusion. The research focuses on participants’ perceptions of the impact of ICT training on their independence and social integration. It also identifies challenges in applying ICT skills in daily life, including barriers to employment and limited access to assistive technologies like Braille displays and hearing aids. Through a qualitative approach—using semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions with 99 participants from diverse people with disability groups—the findings reveal significant improvements in self-confidence, digital literacy, and participants’ ability to overcome employment and online communication challenges. While ICT shows potential to reduce social isolation and foster digital inclusion, disparities in proficiency and access to adaptive tools remain. The study emphasizes the need for more tailored interventions and advocates for increased funding, better accessibility, and stronger public-private partnerships to advance disability inclusion through ICT, extending beyond Indonesia to Asia and the Middle East.

This study delves into the acculturation process among Chinese Peranakans in Serui City, Papua, Indonesia, specifically focusing on transitioning from a bicultural to a monocultural identity. This research uses interpretive phenomenology and in-depth interviews to gather individual experiences. This research found two distinct forms of Chinese acculturation: one driven by Security-Economic factors and the other by Social-Political influences. Furthermore, it found that cultural art traditions, including the traditional dances of Papua as the host culture, play pivotal catalysts in facilitating acculturation within the Peranakan community. The study underscores the dynamic interplay of internal factors, such as economic motives and security concerns, and external factors, including political structures, in driving the shift from biculturality to monoculturality. This research highlights the significance of social and cultural activities as powerful tools for fostering intercultural communication competence among diverse communities.

Purpose This study aims to establish an assessment model to measure big data readiness in the public sector, specifically targeting local governments at the provincial and city/regency levels. Additionally, the study aims to gain valuable insights into the readiness of selected local governments in Indonesia by using the established assessment model. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a mixed-method approach, using focus group discussions (FGDs), surveys and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to establish the assessment model. The FGDs involve gathering perspectives on readiness variables from experts in academia, government and practice, whereas the survey collects data from a sample of selected local governments using a questionnaire developed based on the variables obtained in FGDs. The EFA is used on survey data to condense the variables into a smaller set of dimensions or factors. Ultimately, the assessment model is applied to evaluate the level of big data readiness among the selected Indonesian local governments. Findings FGDs identify 32 essential variables for evaluating the readiness of local governments to adopt big data. Subsequently, EFA reduces this number by five and organizes the remaining variables into four factors: big data strategy, policy and collaboration, infrastructure and human resources and data collection and utilization. The application of the assessment model reveals that the overall readiness for big data in the selected local governments is primarily moderate, with those in the Java cluster displaying higher readiness. In addition, the data collection and utilization factor achieves the highest score among the four factors. Originality/value This study offers an assessment model for evaluating big data readiness within local governments by combining perspectives from big data experts in academia, government and practice.

As the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia does not occupy the top position in the world’s halal industry. It will focus on the halal food sector as one of the sectors in the halal industry and the fact that Indonesia ranks at the top of the mobile e-commerce adoption by millennials. This phenomenon becomes very interesting to analyze. The authors conducted a descriptive study on the target audience of the Islamic economics students in Indonesia and Islamic social media as a digital communication medium. The researchers chose republika.co.id and eramuslim.com as objects with the assumption that they are currently the most popular digital media among Muslim students. The authors’ analysis drew on the uses and gratification theory, among others, to observe the gap between motives (gratification sought) and satisfaction (gratification obtained) in the use of social media. They found that the students’ highest expectation for using the website was on the motive of self-identity and information, whereas they considered eramuslim.com more desirable. However, the high value of expectations for eramuslim.com makes the gap in the motives of personal identity negative. According to the percentage criteria, the level of fulfillment of the motives expected from utilizing the two websites is high. In this criterion, the percentage level of fulfillment of self-identity motives with republika.co.id is higher than with eramuslim.com.

The impact of exhibitionism and voyeurism that we refer to in this work is exhibitionism and voyeurism. This practice is mediated through several new media-based communications venues. This article aims to explain these phenomena of exhibitionism and voyeurism from the perspective of a psychoanalytic framework and outline how the reification of the user into labor logic, and explain how the psychoanalytic process of consumerism is linked to nudity in live broadcasts. We collect information by monitoring the use of Live streaming applications (Bigo, Gogo-live, Tik Tok), either directly or indirectly through the YouTube program. This study concluded that consumerism, or voyeurism, occurs in live-chat streaming programs. The logic of capitalism and capitalization in the Internet and networking sectors encourage exhibitionism and voyeurism by users of live-streaming applications (labor). By turning audiences or content into commodities, voyeurism creates various commodities. In addition, nudity is a kind of merchandise from hard work that ethically has an impact like pornography which is regulated in the Indonesian legal system. Keywords: Exhibitionism; Voyeurism; Streaming Applications; Affection Labor.
