Purpose: The aim of this study is to answer the question of whether the surveyed companies, belonging to a group of small and medium-sized enterprises that have recently undergone changes in the area of production logistics, have moved in the direction of implementing process management and, if so, to what extent this concept has been successfully implemented. Design/methodology/approach: The subject of the study was 7 companies. The study used a questionnaire method, which was administered to 21 people. The questionnaire consisted of 15 questions in the form of affirmative sentences (statements) with answers using a 5-point Likert scale. Findings: The survey shows that, when implementing process management in the companies under study, there is a definite deficiency in the dissemination of the new concept to all employees, group work and exchange of experiences, as well as the implementation of new decision-making paths, the concept of the internal customer and, finally, a change in the whole company's system of values. Research limitations/implications: The survey was conducted among small and medium- sized enterprises and therefore does not include the perspective of large companies. Practical and social implications: The survey has the potential to contribute to a better understanding by companies of the directions which changes are taking and the direction which these changes may take. It will help to increase companies' process awareness and thus, in the long term, help them to achieve a better competitive position in the market. Originality/value: This study belongs to the current research on process management. In view of the subject of the study, which comprised small and medium-sized enterprises that have recently undergone changes in the area of production logistics, specific new conditions have arisen in these companies that require more detailed analysis. Keywords: process management, reorganisation, production logistics. Category of the paper: research paper.

Scientific Papers of Silesian University of Technology Organization and Management Series

Purpose: the purpose of this paper is to understand how newly emerging knowledge is managed in companies undergoing reorganisation within the scope of production logistics. Four elements of the knowledge management process are examined and an attempt is made to diagnose the place and nature of the problems that occur in this process. Design/methodology/approach: the study used a qualitative method. In-depth interviews were conducted in 5 companies with 13 middle and senior managers who were involved in reorganisation processes. The study spanned the period from January to June 2024. Findings: the study shows that the least effective stage is the distribution (transfer) of knowledge to production employees. The biggest problem is the internalisation of knowledge at the lowest levels by employees at individual workstations. Research limitations/implications: the study was conducted among small and medium-sized enterprises and therefore does not take into account the perspective of large companies. It also only addresses knowledge management in the context of production logistics reorganisation and therefore does not focus on other types of reorganisation. Practical implications: understanding the essence of knowledge management is the basis of a successful reorganisation process. Knowledge of its phases and awareness of the shortcomings in the process in small and medium-sized enterprises make it possible to carry it out in a more organised and sustainable way. Social implications: the study may contribute to an increased awareness of reorganisation processes in enterprises and thus to their effectiveness and efficiency. This is then likely to improve the competitiveness of enterprises. Originality/value: this study is part of the trend in the research on knowledge management. Its uniqueness consists in presenting knowledge management in the specific conditions created by the reorganisation process in the area of production logistics. In doing so, it is enriched by a diagnosis of the source of possible failures and an evaluation of the process by the people responsible for the initiation and execution of the process. Keywords: knowledge management, reorganisation, production logistics. Category of the paper: research paper.

Since energy transition has become a necessity, many countries are developing decarbonization plans and looking for ways to reduce CO2 emissions. The process takes different forms, most often being affected by local conditions, which means that it takes place in each country differently, due to the country’s social and economic specifics. One of the countries that has just started its energy transition process is Poland. The case of Poland is extremely interesting, as it is a country whose economy is still heavily dependent on coal and there are very strong traditions related to this particular source of energy. On the other hand, Poland has two very good reasons to move away from coal. The complexity and comprehensiveness of the energy transition results, among other things, from the diversity of actors involved in this issue and the multiplicity of their, often conflicting, interests. Using a critical discourse analysis, this paper attempts to show how those actors attempt to shape the transition through the discourses which they generate. The study covers the media discourse that took place in Poland between September 2020 and May 2021, i.e., a time when the Polish government negotiated with representatives of the miners’ trade unions the terms of Poland’s transition from coal. A critical analysis of the texts that appeared in the media during this time provides a picture of how different groups of social actors perceive the transition and how they try to manage that process.

The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of recycling and upcycling technologies on the level of efficiency of large construction companies in the context of waste management practice. The research methodology was based on regression analysis and factorial analysis of variance. Based on the assessment of waste management efficiency in the context of recycling (upcycling), the positive dynamics of the efficiency of its implementation was determined in comparison with traditional waste disposal. The levels of the relationship among net profit, investment in waste management, and recycling efficiency for the companies under study were determined. Regression analysis of the impact of recycling efficiency on the performance of the companies under study in the context of waste management demonstrated a positive effect of an increase in the efficiency of recycling (upcycling) on the net profit of all companies under study. However, at the same time, there was a different effect and degree of influence of this indicator according to the formed scenarios. Despite the high efficiency of recycling (upcycling), the prospective increase in its level does not have a proportional relationship with profit but depends on the development factors of the construction company. Two-way analysis of variance demonstrated a strong influence of the efficiency of recycling (upcycling) and waste disposal on waste management efficiency. It was proven that companies that currently have a high level of recycling (upcycling) efficiency are practically not focused on traditional waste disposal, since recycling has a more significant and positive impact on the effectiveness of their activities.

This paper presents the concept of setting up a packaging laboratory in the field of studies of logistics. The springboard for the discussion is an assumption that now with an increasingly demanding job market and much sought-after hands-on experience in candidates for jobs in logistics there is a need to increase the number of hours of experiential learning classes for students of logistics. Since it is not always possible to establish professional laboratories, which require significantly high financial means, it should be considered how to provide for the basic objectives which a laboratory should offer when having much more modest financial means. This is the reason why this paper defines what can be expected from practical classes and what type of classes should be conducted in a laboratory. The discussion also included an analysis of a short pilot study of experiential learning classes conducted in a laboratory of packaging materials.

The paper was written in an attempt to compare the degree of sustainability of public transport development in selected Polish cities. Sustainable development of public transport is a goal of almost every city in Poland provided for in the strategy documents. Local authorities take efforts to make public transport more attractive and competitive as well as to improve urban facilities for cyclists and pedestrians. At the same time the motorization rate in Poland is known to be growing very fast, traffic congestion is becoming more common and many Polish cities are undergoing rapid development with increasing urban sprawl. This raises some doubts concerning the effectiveness of local authorities. A comparative analysis of the degree of sustainability of public transport development in Polish cities can provide guidelines for further action plans in this area. Various authors try to compile a list of indicators measuring the degree of transport sustainability. In Poland, such measurement is relatively complex primarily due to a varied approach. Also the existing statistical database in our country hinders the process. In view of the above, the analysis will be based on selected indicators that were available, useful and intelligible.
