... Unlike skilled selves, industrious selves have long been protagonists in the vision of Canada as a resource nation that circulated among politicians and in the media over the period in question. This vision is part of a well-documented tendency among the country's elite to discursively link sovereignty and national identity to major 'nation-building' technological infrastructure projects that facilitate the extraction and transportation of natural resources (Aronczyk 2017, Barney 2017.
