Belemnite-bearing sequences in the South Island occur on the northern limb of the Southland Syncline near Sandy Bay (Fig.7), inland southeast of Gore (F45) in the Hokonui Hills (E45, Fig.7), and on the southern limb east of Long Point (Fig. 7). Fleming & Kear (1960) erected the Rengarenga Group for about 850 m of mostly non-marine sediments beneath the Oraka Sandstone in the Jurassic reference section at Kawhia Harbour. Hudson (1999) used informal formation names for marine beds in the Awakino region that correlate with the Rengarenga Group. ...
