This paper is based on a project whose objective was the Regeneration of conditions and biotopes typical for natural floodplains of the upper Weser landscape. The project’s main aim was to encourage and initiate measures to restore the dynamic conditions associated with high and low flows in a floodplain. Investigations of the physical environment and the vegetation are used to illustrate the effects of the regeneration measures on the project areas and their living communities. The degree of success in restoring the desired floodplain dynamics are explored with the help of results from the vegetation and fauna investigations. It is demonstrated that both the regeneration measures and weather conditions influence certain developments in the area. Hence long term investigations are necessary to establish the actual driving force of the developments which have taken place.
