C.D. Staley

Product development has for a long time been following the traditional waterfall method. This approach was rooted in an old NASA philosophy of serial development. The paper discusses how one company has applied more parallelism, and early testing of system components to ward off late cycle surprises. The technique puts emphasis on the early discovery of system anomalies, through small stepwise refinements of a product. Case studies are offered to show how early testing can avoid the delays associated with Big Bang testing
