... Tanikawa (2000) placed four Japanese orb-weaving spider species, three of which were previously listed in Zilla C.L. Koch, 1834, into Eriophora Simon, 1864, after he added these species to Scharff & Coddington's (1997) comprehensive phylogenetic analysis of orbweaving spiders. This generic placement was later adopted for Chinese and Taiwanese species of similar morphology (Chang & Tso, 2004;Zhang, Zhu & Song, 2006). However, Tanikawa (2000) had already noted considerable differences in genital morphology and eye pattern between the Asian and true Eriophora. ...
